Culture as a social structure can be defined as being the way people communicate with each other and is an integral part of any society. The interaction can take the form of active and passive response which can occur within the same facility. Our experience in cultural projects encompasses projects that include both elements such as our work with the Art Gallery of NSW with both their existing gallery and the proposed new addition of Sydney Modern and with performing arts facilities such as the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub at Springwood. We have also worked with Sydney Living Museums on the Justice & Police Museum which combines exhibits, video content along with period costume recreations, particularly with school groups, of how the court rooms were used in the past.
This diversity brings its own challenges in understanding the different needs of the building owner, the operator, the collection, the artists and the public. Our experience in these projects has allowed us to develop the skills necessary to define scope and cost invariably with limited funding.
